Bangkok promises free interactive apps to tourists

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in collaboration with Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) would be launching an interactive mobile application for tourists early next year.

This fresh initiative is part of the digital tourism road map of the government.

And this new mobile app would aim to promote tourism activities as per Pichet Durongkaveroj, the DE minister. The app would be offered absolutely free of charge to tourists. Furthermore it would integrate all kinds of tourism-related information that have been offered by several agencies.

This comprises information from the Immigration Bureau, journey planning, online booking, events calendar, digital tour guide and landmarks in provinces and also availability of public services including the areas that are free of Wi-Fi hotspots.

Currently tourism is among the most essential revenue generators for the country that boasts of nearly 30 million international arrivals from 1st January to 11th October this year marking a rise of 5.6% from 2016.

They have ushered in as much as 1.37 trillion baht in terms of revenue marking a 7.6% increase year-on-year.

The government has assigned the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to adopt digital technology to develop the database via integrated application in collaboration with the DE ministry and other agencies.

And the DE ministry is also ready to act as an important decision support system for the digital tourism implementation. This mobile app aims to attract a greater number of quality tourists to Thailand with an expectation that they would be spending more money and time.
