Gun attack terrorizes NI tourists, kills at least 58, injures many

A recent gun attack in Las Vegas has claimed the lives of 58 people, injured several hundreds more, terrorizing a large number of tourists in this part of the world.

Among the people affected were a newly-married couple from Northern Ireland who fled in panic from a concert in Las Vegas, narrowly escaping the shooting.

Stuart McCormick and his wife Zara were among the thousands of people attending this festival when the gunman opened fire from a nearby hotel. He told one of the leading media agencies that they were about to approach the middle of the concert when suddenly they heard four noises and start panicking.

The couple was not able to get out of the venue and therefore they hid behind a stall.

The suspect has been named as Stephen Paddock who is a 64-year-old. He allegedly sprayed bullets on the crowd from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel.

The witnesses reported that a large number of shots were being fired from the hotel that overlooks the open-air country music festival. Some of them had hid behind a stall but were still visible. The McCormicks who hailed from Killyleagh in County Down were on honeymoon in the US city.

They had flown to Las Vegas for their wedding last Friday.

The couple were not hurt, luckily, during the shooting. But then over 400 people have been treated in hospital on account of their injuries. This has been the worst shooting in the history of the US and it had a death toll of at least 58.

The gunman is dead after reportedly shooting himself in a hotel room as officers closed in.

Frances McCullough from Belfast in currently enjoying a holiday in the city and residing in a hotel next door to the Mandalay Bay. She also told the media agency that she had come across ‘absolute chaos’ on the street outside as the police made attempts to clear the area.
